Got fruit? StuCo brings back free, healthy snacks

Jazlyn Palmer (9) grabs a peach from the bowl in the Associate Principal’s office before school starts on Friday, Oct. 7, 2011. Student Council is once again providing free fruit for students through a grant to encourage healthy eating habits. Fruit will be available each day in the offices and the Media Center for anyone to take.

If you’ve been missing the bowls of fresh fruit and healthy snacks we’ve grown used to over the past 5 years, you’re in luck. They’re back! Student Council, in partnership with LPS Food Services, has received two new grants to help provide students with some healthy food choices in the morning and throughout the day.

The funding, from Action for Healthy Kids & Kellogg’s “Share Your Breakfast Grant” and the “Fuel Up To Play 60 Grant” from the Mid-West Dairy Council and NFL Partnership, have made it possible for StuCo to bring back these good food alternatives.

Fresh fruit and healthy snacks are available in the Athletic Office, the Media Center, and in the Attendance, Counseling, and Associate Principal’s Offices daily while they last.
