LHS Football Season Begins

By Kassy Chilen

The 2009 football season kicked off at Seacrest Field Friday evening as Lincoln High battled rival Southeast.

One of the highlights of the game occured during the pre-show performance by both school’s marching bands: Lincoln High and Southeast came together and spelled out ‘LINCOLN’ during the performance of the Star Spangled Banner.  In a show of community and sportsmanship, both schools took the field together. Lincoln High formed the first 3 ½ letters and Southeast created the last 3 ½ letters. Then the Southeast marching band marched off the field playing their fight song and Lincoln High followed right after with “Links of the Black of Red.”

The game was televised for broadcast on Channel 21 and was availible in homes across the region.  As the game began the momentum did not go Lincoln High’s way.  Southeast took an early lead and kept a strong momentum through the first half.  Misfortune struck Links as senior J.C. Lott was injured and he is  potentially out for the season with a knee injury.  Southeast’s offense had an impressive running and passing game as junior quarterback Derrious Vick finished the game with three touchdowns and over 100 yards through the air.  Scoring for the Links was senior quarterback Dylan Flinn.

The Links look to rebound this week when they take to the road and play Omaha South.
