For this semester, LHS senior Olivia Vanderford is involved with FFA! She goes to the TCA (The Career Academy) at SCC three days a week and takes two classes (which work for college credit.) And through FFA, she has already achieved some cool things… her TCA team placed 2nd out of 17 teams for livestock judging, she auditioned and made it into the state FFA choir and she placed first in Senior Public Speaking at a district competition in Norris and is headed to state the end of March. Olivia talks about being a city kid and having a passion for agriculture. She’s been showing pigs in 4-H since she was 8 or 9. And she is the current president of the Pick-A-Pig 4-H Club. This club gives urban kids the opportunity to learn about agriculture and raise and show a pig at the county fair. This past summer, Olivia won senior swine showmanship at the Lancaster County Fair. Olivia would like to get FFA in schools like LHS someday. I thought I’d pass this along. It might inspire other kids who like animals and agriculture! Olivia plans to major in Ag Communications and minor in vocal music at UNL. (We have pictures of Olivia showing her pigs and winning FFA district speech, etc.)
