With the 2012 election coming up quickly, adults all over the United States will be casting their vote for whomever they believe should be serving as President of the United States for the next four years.

While you are only allowed to vote when you are registered at the age of 18, people are interested in the opinions of a younger demographic: school-aged students.

Student Vote is an opportunity for students in public schools to voice (vote?) their own personal political opinions. This Thursday, Nov. 1,  is when Student Vote will take place here at Lincoln High, along with the whole LPS system.

Students will be asked to vote for a Presidential candidate, a Nebraska Senate candidate, a Nebraska Congressional candidate, and a Nebraska Board of Education member. The polls are set to open at 8 a.m. in lab 100M, though sponsors are working to open it earlier due to schedule conflicts with students that day.

“Most students will participate during their Social Studies class, but we do have many students that do not have a Social Studies class this semester,” Social Studies chair Jarrell Green said.  Teachers have passes for students without a social studies classes, so that they still get a chance to cast their ballots.

“We are doing our best to get all of these students to the polls but some may be missed,” Green added.
