The month of October is full of tricks and treats! Don’t you hate when the movies are especially sweet? I want a movie full of scares, something full of terror only watched on dares. The flicks I picked were especially rich; some meant to be scary but caught another niche. Horror and Comedy are like two peas in a pod; can’t have one without the other, and wont be forgot. So without further a do, take a peek at this list, it’s sure to be a helpful assist.
House of A Thousand Corpses Rated: NC-17 89 Minutes (2003)
Directed by Rob Zombie, this film is absolutely insane. The way that it’s filmed is very unique and honestly, I’ve never seen a movie quite like this one ever before. It honestly makes me cringe just thinking about it. This movie was about four teens who are on a road trip, they are writing an article about the creepiest/weirdest places on the road to stop at when they come across a man they call Captain Spalding. Captain Spalding tells them the old legend of Dr. Satan and which the teens, being the teens they are, set out to see if this urban legend is true, only to discover, that it isn’t a legend….(If you liked this movie, there is a sequel to this movie called Devil’s Rejects)
Shutter Rated: NR 97 Minutes (2004)
This movie was the very first scary movie that I had ever seen. I didn’t watch this version until recently only to discover that this version is way better than the American remake. This movie does have subtitles so if you don’t want to watch this one, the American version is very close, just not as scary. This movie is based around a photographer and his girlfriend. After developing some of his pictures, he notices white smudges coming across his photos. He thinks that it’s just an error from the developer but after reprinting, they smudges aren’t going away. His girlfriend starts noticing weird occurrences around the house and begins questioning her boyfriend only to find out that there is a hidden secret, something that he hasn’t told her about that could change their lives forever.
Let The Right One In Rated: R 115 Minutes (2008)
This another one of those movies that has subtitles during the whole film, but there is an American version that is pretty close to the original which is called, Let Me In, but again, I find this version to be very much more thrilling. The movie takes place in Stockholm where Oscar is bullied every single day. Oscar lives in an apartment building and sometimes he spends his nights outside in the cold hanging out by himself at the park. One night at the park, he meets Eli, the new girl who just has just moved into his apartment building. But Eli isn’t just who he thinks she is, in fact, her secret is the answer to the many questions around the town.
The Haunting in Connecticut Rated: PG-13 92 minutes (2009)
This movie doesn’t have any subtitles, but it is absolutely amazing! This is probably one of my all-time favorite scary movies. Matt Campbell, the main character in the movie, has cancer and because of his cancer, his family has to pack up and move to Connecticut to be closer to his doctor. As soon as they move, weird things start happen and secrets become more evident. Let’s just say that the Campbell’s aren’t the only things living there…
Poltergeist Rated: PG 114 Minutes (1982)
Although this movie nowadays may be considered more of a comedy rather than a horror, this one once said to be “one of the greatest horror films of its time.” The movie takes place with a normal family, who fight with their siblings and eat family together at the kitchen table. As the movie carries on, weird things begin happening such as the Carol Anne, the sweet darling innocent child, talking to the television static late at night. Her parents dismiss it, but little did they know, worse was about to come.
I hope my list was helpful with a sprinkle of insight of a list of six movies, hoping to fright. There are hundreds of others that just couldn’t compete, the list would be never-ending before it would be complete.
