Ever wonder what new teachers are lurking the halls when a new school year begins? This 2017-2018 school year at Lincoln High began with 27 new teachers. One of those fascinating teachers includes Mariah Wailes who teaches Spanish during the day.
Wailes mentioned she had come to Lincoln High compared to other schools because she had student taught here and thought it was a wonderful experience.
Wailes added, “I love the diversity and environment of the school.” Wailes also included that she is enjoying Lincoln High so far and that it’s a lot of work but also extremely rewarding. She stated that she originally hadn’t known she was going to be a teacher till midway through college.
“I chose Spanish after studying in Spain for the summer,” Wailes said. “The connections I was able to make with Spanish speakers were exciting and inspiring. I had a lot of experiences that I wouldn’t have had without being able to speak Spanish, and I wanted to share that with others.”
Even though Wailes loves to teach and empower students, during her free time she has a black belt in TaeKwonDo and is a very energetic dancer. Overall, Wailes is a teacher that is always ready to jump at the newest adventure and is ready to teach kids the beauty of another language.
