And now here’s your Native American Heritage Month fact of the day:
While the Fourteenth Amendment defines as citizens any persons born in the U.S., the government specifically interpreted the law so it didn’t apply to Native people.The Indian Citizenship Act of 1924 was signed into law by President Calvin Coolidge. It was enacted partially in recognition of the thousands of Native Americans who served in the armed forces during World War I. The right to vote in all 50 states wasn’t granted until 1962. The last state to fully guarantee voting rights for Native people was Utah

Rahma: Today is hosa hat day! If you purchased a wristband for $1 you can wear hats, beanies, etc, BUT no hoods are not permitted!
Aidan: HOSA is a club at Lincoln High, but also an organization internationally. Their mission is to help kids just like us become leaders and future medical professionals.
Rahma: We have many things coming up this year, fundraisers to benefit Team Jack and so much more you can participate in
Aidan: Thank you to everyone who participated in the HOSA week and helped spread awareness!

Girl Up LHS is participating in the Lincoln Holiday Makers Market tomorrow, Saturday, November 16, from 1 to 5 pm. Girl Up is selling handmade prints to fundraise for the Pad Project, and the Makers Market will also offer art, music, and food. Come support us at 1247 S 11th Street from 1 to 5 tomorrow!

 

And now to sports with Tyler Schumacher
Tonight at 7pm in Johnson Gym there will be a Staff versus Staff basketball game called Hoops for Hope. We talked to Davis Buchanan and Jaxson Barber, coaches of the Red and Black team respectively, Wednesday after practice.Buchanan is joined by fellow red team coach Nyayian Koang and Barber is joined by Nyayongah Gony. Only players Mark Larson and Noah Ross were spotted at practice. Admission is only $5 and all proceeds go to Make a Wish Foundation.

 

I’m Juliana Quattrocchi on behalf of your friendly neighborhood Student Council and I want YOU to apply to student council second semester. Plan events like Prom, Respect Campaign, and Hoops 4 Hope. Fill out the application using the jump code YQPV.

As Tyler mentioned, Today is THE day! Hoops 4 Hope is tonight at 7 pm in the Johnson Gym. Tickets are 5 dollars. Support the Make a Wish Foundation and enjoy your teachers’ attempts at playing basketball. We’ll see you there. Go links!

 

ATTENTION BOYS BASKETBALL PLAYERS GRADES 9-12

*An updated list of players who DO NOT HAVE THEIR RED CARD OR HAVE NOT COMPLETED ATHLETIC TESTING will be posted by the Athletic Director’s Office in Johnson Hallway on Monday, November 18th. You must have both completed in order to try out.

Unified Bowling competes this coming Monday against Northeast.

All Wrestlers remember Mandatory Practices starts on Monday Nov 18th at 3:15 in the Wrestling Room. Please make sure you have gym clothes and are ready to go. If you have not checked out a locker, you will do this on Monday. If you have any questions please talk to Coach Genrich.

Tonight is the LHS D&D club’s second annual Dungeons and Dollars in the Media Center from 4:30pm to 11:59pm. The cost is $7 at the door.

Here’s another fantastic announcement from Fellowship of Christian Athletes! If you haven’t attended an FCA Morning Meeting yet, you’ll have another chance next Tuesday, in Mr. Droud’s room. Oh, and today’s movie quote: “THIS IS A VIDEO GAME, WHICH MEANS WE EACH HAVE THREE LIVES.” The first person to email Mr. Droud with the correct movie title will win a “fabulous” prize.
