With Frost out, the future of Husker football is uncertain

Two weeks ago, former Nebraska head coach, Scott Frost, was fired following an embarrassing 45-42 loss against Georgia Southern.
Frost was supposed to be the savior for the Huskers. As a former Husker himself Frost led NU to a national championship in his 1997 season. Frost had also just led the UCF Knights to a national championship before returning to his alma mater in 2017.
Frost had the most hype around him, and fans were ecstatic about his arrival in Lincoln, “I was super excited to hire him, he was the Coach of the Year coming here!” said LHS teacher Chris Turley, who is also a UNL alumni.
After 5 consecutive losing seasons under Frost, Husker supporters were fed up. “The whole fanbase hated him,” said LHS senior Sean Mahoney.
NU wasted no time in firing Frost, though many supporters think his firing should have come earlier. “I would have fired him after last year from a pure football standpoint,” said Turley.
People have many conflicting opinions about Frost’s $15 million buyout. “Even though I am a huge fan of sports it is crazy how much they get paid.” said Turley. Frost’s buyout was 3 weeks away from being halved to $7 million. Fans like Mahoney think “we should have waited”, but many serious supporters like Turley think it made sense to pull the trigger saying “it made sense to make the change before the bye week”.
Mickey Joseph has taken the reins as interim head coach for the Huskers, but the head coaching position is largely up for grabs. The program’s future is largely undecided.
Every Husker supporter has their own ideas for pulling the Huskers out of this drought. “I would want to hire Mickey Joseph, Matt Rhule, or Lance Leipold,” said Turley. Mahoney believes that this program needs former Buckeyes head coach Urban Meyer. The entire fanbase is conflicted about where the Huskers should go, but everyone agrees NU needs to win. Turley says we “might as well just give the money to the other sports like Nebrasketball or Volleyball,” and many fans as well as myself agree with that sentiment.
