The CHG, also known as the Community Healing Garden Club, has been around for over five years. Started by a group of passionate students, this club has been involved in important activities such as providing healthy food options using the garden.
Carol Flora is the club advisor of the CHG. Flora told the story of how this club came to be as, “I was working with these students during class and also I was involved in another community organization called Stand in for Nebraska and through that organization I was working pretty heavily within indigenous communities. I was working as a success coach at Lincoln High and then also through the Indian Center. And through that work, we had started a community healing garden at the Indian Center and then students wanted to see that happen at Lincoln High as well.” Flora’s main dream for the club currently is to build a space that is friendly to all age groups.

Joslen Pratt is a freshman at Lincoln High and just joined the club this year. Pratt joined the club because a couple of her friends had suggested that she join. She thinks it is important to learn about the environment, as most students do not have a garden at home. Pratt hopes more students decide to join the club because as she said, “It is important because it teaches you how to plant and also it teaches you knowledge about the economy and what you need to do to plant or like help out in a garden, and also you can make very great friends in this club.”
