West is primarily a French teacher in the International Baccalaureate Program at Lincoln High School, but joined the Broadcast Journalism program at the beginning of the 2019-2020 school year, and added the Newspaper program in spring of 2024. He is the Faculty Advisor for the the LHS National Honor Society, as well as the LHS French Honor Society.
West is also a proud professional member of the National Education Association (NEA), the Nebraska State Educators Association (NSEA), the Lincoln Education Association (LEA), the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL), the American Association of Teachers of French (AATF), the Nebraska High School Press Association (NHSPA), the Nebraska Broadcasters Association (NBA), and the National Scholastic Press Association (NSPA). West also is elected to the Board of Directors of the LEA as an At-Large representative.
Originally from New York, West grew up in Loveland, Colorado where he attended high school at Loveland High School (LHS – Red and Black, too) before moving to Greeley, Colorado to attend the University of Northern Colorado for a degree secondary education. He also has a Master of Science in Curriculum and Instruction from Western Governor’s University.
In his free time, West loves to travel and has been to France several times, including two school years spent teaching English in Jonzac, France. West also loves to cook and try new foods but his favorites include Indian, Mexican, French, and Italian – however West has an aversion to spicy foods, so certain foods are a “no-no” for him.
Pets are very important to West, who has three dogs, a Corgi named Miggy, a Corgsky named Kip, and a mixed-breed named Bubby. There’s also a cat in the mix, named Fifi.
