LHS DECA found a new way to become financially self-sustaining during their pre-competition season in preparation for their annual conference in Indianapolis, Central Region Leadership Conference (CRLC). On Thursday, October 20th, Lincoln High DECA received the first half to a $15,000 sponsorship.
How did DECA receive this sponsorship? Last September, co-presidents, seniors Jamil Funnah and King Tadesse, as well as co-fundraising chairs, sophomores Angelina Tran and Jayla Toliver, along with Advisor Collin Hute, pitched their idea of sponsorship to Roland Temme, founder of TMCO (Total Manufacturing Company). Temme, a former teacher and current mentor generously accepted the pitch and agreed to donate $2,000 to the Lincoln High chapter.
Just three weeks later, Temme had heard the overall goal for the year was $15,000, and sent a representative from TMCO to locate Tran, and request information to write a check out to Lincoln High’s DECA Chapter. Little did they know, the $2,000 they thought we were receiving, was actually multiplied by 7.5 and turned out to be 15 grand.
The following day, October 20th, Temme and representatives were at Lincoln High School, ready to present the first $7,500 to LHS DECA. Temme personally requested to hand the check to Tran, his mentee, in honor of this event.
TMCO and Lincoln High DECA will continue to partner together, as TMCO is now Lincoln High DECA’s official sponsor. To stay up to date with LHS DECA, follow them on Twitter.
