Last Friday night was the first big varsity football game for everyone: the student section, parents, Cheerleaders, Pomalinks, the team, and the entire school. The Links almost went unscored upon against Omaha Northwest, but they still left the field with a bashing 51-7 win at Beechner Field.

Just last year, the team lost to the Huskies 21-22 in Omaha, our first loss against them in four years. What’s the change? Junior quarterback Cedric Case may be part of the answer. “It’s always great to get a win, no matter the opponent, but it’s always special to get that revenge on a team that beat you a year ago,” Case said.
Case fought last year to be first string against now senior Jackson Mallory, who transferred to Lincoln Christian High School last spring. Case is now the main varsity quarterback.
“I feel like I have a lot of people to prove wrong,” Case said. “Every day I try and put a chip on my shoulder and outwork the competition, because I don’t want to look back and be able to say that I could’ve done more.”
Not only is Case in Advanced Weight Training, he also attended various football camps over the summer to be at the top. You could say his biggest competition is himself, but he does it for his team.
“I think we play the most exciting style of football in the city,” Case said.
Case and the Links play again this Friday night at Beechner Athletic Complex against Pius X for the Homecoming game at 6 p.m.
“You get to see the best athletes in Lincoln flying around, with the ball spread around everywhere. And against a good Pius team? It should be a fun one to watch,” Case said.
