Good morning, Lincoln High! Welcome to our first ever broadcast of LINKS LIVE! The Lincoln High Morning Show. We’ll keep you up to date on everything happening at The High including sports scores, announcements, and other things you need to know throughout the school year!

First up, in sports today:

All girls going out for softball, Please meet in Johnson Gym at 2:15 p.m.

All 9th graders that have a desire to play freshman football, come to the freshman locker room at the end of school located in the athletic hallway.

Anyone interested in playing girls golf this year can stop in the athletic office and pick up an athletic participation form and practice schedule.

In other news, 

Did you know that Lincoln High is now a Community Learning Center? It’s true! What does it mean now that LHS is now a CLC? This year Lincoln High will be offering many of the same amazing after school opportunities, but we are looking to grow! Check out the current opportunities online under the Activities tab on the LHS website at LHS.LPS.ORG. Not seeing what you want? Stop by the Family Resource Center (room 201) and chat with Chelsea Egenberger, the CLC director. They want to hear from you!

Attention Seniors – now is the final opportunity to apply to be a National Honor Society scholar. Online applications are due by 11:59 p.m. on Wednesday, August 28th.  All eligible students are encouraged to apply. If you have questions, please see Mr. West in room 335.

Any Junior or Senior interested in Work Experience credit must sign up by Friday, Aug. 16. You must already have a job.  This is a great way to earn credits if you are already working. There will be a short meeting next Tuesday, Aug. 20th at 2:15 in room 212 to get your contract and other information.  Take advantage of the opportunity and sign up by FRIDAY, Aug. 16th. You will sign up on your Chromebook using the jump code: BHYN         

Attention Speech Team VARSITY members: There will be a meeting next Monday after school in Room 302.  Again, Speech Team Varsity members meeting at 3:15 in Room 302 on Monday, August 19th.

“LHS Theatre is proud to announce the 2019-2020 season productions.  Please visit the Marquees in front of the Ted Sorensen Theatre or look for Season Posters placed around LHS for the list of productions.  This LHS Theatre season promises to be one of the best yet. If you have any questions about the productions, or how you can be involved in LHS Theatre, please contact Ms. Molly Thomas, Mr. Holbein, Theatre Board President Emma Harner or come to the LHS Theatre Board Meeting after school on Monday, August 19 for more information.

LHS Theatre Auditions for the Fall Play are coming up.  Don’t miss out on your chance to audition for Dracula: A Comic Thriller Starring Shirley Holmes and Jennie Watson, Directed by Molly Thomas.  Auditions will be held on August 26, 27 and 28 from 3:30 to 6:30 in the Ted Sorensen Theatre. Sign up sheets for Auditions can be found on the Tech Room Doors, room 217.  Audition forms can be found in front of #217 or on the table in front of Miss Thomas’ room, 301.  

Not ready for your Mainstage Debut at LHS Theatre?  LHS Technical Theatre is ready to put power tools in your hands, train for lighting and sound, costume actors, design makeup, find props, build sets or any number of jobs taking place backstage to make a theatrical production a success.  Sign up forms for Technical Crews and Training can be found on the Tech Room Doors Room 217 or contact Tech Theatre Reps Alex Martin, Olivia Haller or Mr. Holbein for more information or just stop by the Scene Studio, Room 217, to see why Ben Koch is making all that noise.”

Any students interested in joining the Lincoln High Math Team, please sign up with Dr. Janike  in room S126. We will be meeting after school on Mondays starting next week and on club days. The math team is for students who are interested in attending math competitions and using math to solve interesting questions.  

The Media Center is open until this week Wed-Friday from 7:30 a.m. until 4:30 pm. Extended hours start on Monday, August 19th.

Congratulations to the members of the LHS debate team for their performance at nationals this summer. In Policy debate, seniors Tristian Swift and Hassan Almusawy advanced further than any other team from Nebraska! In Public Forum debate, seniors Luke Moberly and Madeline Walker made a deep run into elimination rounds, finishing 14th in the nation! Want to join our nationally competitive team? Listen for an announcement for our new members meeting at the end of the month. 

Congratulations to Harper Lawson who competed last week in the 2019 Ford World Championship Horse Show and placed 4th out of 135 of the best in the world. Another Lincoln High Job Well Done!

A friendly reminder to all students who drive: the new teacher lot, on the north side of the building in front, does not yet have a sign, but teachers are assigned to park there. The spots are painted with numbers in the 800s. Please park in the student lot along Capitol Parkway so teachers may use their assigned parking spots. Thanks!
