I’m Cate Frederick keeping you updated on the latest news about school and the coronavirus situation.

Speaking of movies, you know what would go great with the movies and shows you’ve been streaming while you’re stuck at home? Movie Theater popcorn! Now you can order curbside pickup of popcorn and treats from Marcus Theatres at Edgewood (56th and Highway 2) Friday through Sunday! Choose from a Family Sized popcorn which is the size of two large tubs for $10, or the Party Size, which is the size of 5 large tubs for $20. Cotton candy and other treats as well as ICEES are also available.
Pickup is From 2-7pm on Friday and Saturday and from 12-4pm on Sunday

If you would like to be involved in the 2021 show choir season, use the jump code PIO9. That code will take you to the audition folder Mr.Hoefling has set up. In this folder you will find audition materials for Momentum and Impulse, and sign-ups for show band and roadies. Please also join the audition google classroom with the code egl6em4. Because of the school closure, auditions will be held closer to fall, but that gives you plenty of time to practice!

Here’s an update on Summer School that you’re going to want to listen to:
Summer School for students in Grades 9-12 will be offered this year FOR FREE. LPS will waive all tuition fees for any high school student (public or private), and classes are available to any student in grades 9-12 that currently resides within the LPS boundary.

Classes will not meet physically during summer school, but they will be done remotely and synchronously from June 3rd through July 16th. This means that students who register for a summer school course will be required to log-on to their Chromebook and meet with their teacher electronically during their scheduled class time, Monday through Friday. Classes will be from 8-9:50 a.m. and 9:55-11:45 a.m.

Teachers will be using Zoom and Google Classroom, along with other electronic tools, to deliver instruction each day during the class period.

High School Graduation
With new health directives coming out every week, LPS Administrators are waiting to make a final decision about how graduation ceremonies will take place for the Class of 2020. This is what we know so far:
Graduation will be held on July 26th, 2020 for each of our six high schools. This could include traditional in-person ceremonies with crowd modifications, or virtually.
A decision will be announced by June 15th based on health directives and advice by local and state health and government officials.
Any in-person ceremony held on July 26th will have to follow the current health directives and best practices.
Just as we have the past two years, graduation will be livestreamed.
Watch for more information to be released in June. Lincoln Graduation will distribute the caps and gowns in June when plans have been finalized. More information will be sent by your principal on that process, and we’ll keep you updated here at LinksLIVE!, so stay tuned.

Picking Up Items Left at School
Students are still not allowed into school buildings at this time to retrieve their belongings. Plans are being made for how families will be able to safely collect their student’s possessions once it is safe to do so. Watch for more information to come from your principal after May 8th.

CLC Learning: Afterschool Style
Community Learning Centers continue to add new materials for afterschool style academic and enrichment activities. Those can be found here. New this week – The City of Lincoln’s Nature Challenge and Creating Rube Goldberg machines with household items.

WiFi Hotspots available for LPS students grades 2-12
**If you’re having connectivity issues, LPS is offering free WiFi Hotspots. Even if your family already has internet service, if you’re having issues with too many people on it at once, or if your connection is unreliable you could get a hot spot just for yourself and your Chromebook. Contact your school office or the LPS Help Desk at (402) 436-1735 immediately. We have a limited number of WiFi hotspots available for LPS families that are only compatible with LPS issued Chromebooks. These WiFi hotspots are free and simple to set up.
The LPS Foundation has created a COVID-19 Emergency Fund
The Foundation for Lincoln Public Schools is now accepting requests for emergency assistance from LPS students and their families who are affected by COVID-19.

Families of LPS students in need may request funds to help with:

• Past due rent
• Past due mortgage
• Upcoming rent
• Childcare
• Other bills (car insurance, cell phones, etc.)
• Other emergencies as necessary

Preference will be given to families who have not yet submitted an application for emergency assistance due to COVID-19. The request form is available atFoundationforLPS.org. The request will be reviewed after the online application is submitted. If approved, payments will be made directly to the payee (i.e. landlord, childcare provider, insurance company, etc.). Funds will be distributed May 8th through the 11th.

LPS has added two new locations Goodrich and Lefler, for food distribution. Click on the Food Distribution link at lps.org for maps and more specific information, or type the word “food” in the keyword search. [https://home.lps.org/covid-19/food-distribution/]

Weekly food distribution is Mondays from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. for any child ages 1-18 at the following locations:
Belmont, Arnold, Calvert, Hartley, Huntington, Clinton, Saratoga, and West Lincoln
Elementary Schools:
Culler, Park, Goodrich, and Lefler Middle Schools,
and at Northeast High School and Lincoln High where you’ll enter the circle on 21st and J Streets and follow staff directions.

Any family is also welcome to pick up pre-packaged bags of food from the Lincoln Food Bank during their food distribution. More information about their schedule can be found at their website: LincolnFoodBank.org
