NORMANDY, France — A group of 48 current and former Lincoln High School students, staff, and family members recently embarked on a journey of a lifetime, traveling to Normandy, France, to mark the 80th anniversary of D-Day. Led by principal Mr. Mark Larson and Social Studies teacher Brian Goodbrake, the group aimed to honor the bravery and sacrifice of those who fought in one of World War II’s most pivotal theatres and to pay respect to fallen Lincoln High alum.

Traditionally, sand from Omaha Beach is rubbed into the name on the burial marker when loved ones or visitors come to remember them. This group had a different idea. The students from Lincoln High School, instead, brought dirt and sand from the school and rubbed that into the burial markers, along with the markers of several other LHS alum. EF Tours, the company that the school used for this trip, posted a video online and it had already surpassed 50-thousand views in just sixteen hours:

This journey to Normandy not only enriched the students’ understanding of history but also fostered a deeper sense of gratitude and respect for the sacrifices of past generations, creating a tie between the students who walk the hallways of Lincoln High School today, and those who did, more than 80 years ago.
