The award from the school district was given to the 23-person custodial staff during a school meeting held on August 8th, while gearing up for the 2024-2025 school year. The team earned the award through a building inspection coordinated through LPS’s Custodial Department that every school in the district goes through.
Lincoln High is the largest school in the district both in physical size, and student body, which educates over 2,100 students. Keeping this school in shape is no easy task. The south building of LHS has also been under construction and receiving renovations for years now, and the custodial staff have been tackling that extra challenge with grace on top of all of their other responsibilities.
We spoke to science teacher Kim Stoebner at Lincoln High and she had nothing but praise to share with us. Her thoughts echoed the gratitude we all feel here at LHS for their work. She shared her gratitude for the work they do during the day and is especially grateful for the hard work they put in during the summer with all of the construction south building has been undergoing.
When Stoebner was asked if she has frequent interactions with the custodial staff, Stoebner gave an affirmative yes. She said, “It is always positive talking with them.” She continued to list things she and many of us are thankful for, such as our school having far less health risks, teachers being given a better environment to work in, and simply being a positive presence in the building.
When we spoke to Endurance Idigima, a long time Custodian of LPS, she built on what Stoebner had said about the teacher custodial relationships. She shared that she is “happy to have those connections with the working teachers.” Idigima has been Working as a custodian at LHS since 2001. She describes herself as a traveling custodian since she not only works hard here, but also every other school in the district.
While the Custodians of Lincoln High are a core part of what keeps this school running, they could always use a bit more appreciation from all of us. So whenever you see one of these people hard at work, show the K in LHS you KNOW and throw them a smile! They are all great people to talk to and are doing so much for us that we may not think about at first.
