Some girls dream of equality, but others are determined to make it happen. Recently, a Lincoln chapter of “Like a Girl” club has brought in girls from all over the district to advocate for girls and their issues, and to empower them.
Lincoln High junior Sophia Olson is involved with the Like a Girl club.
“Like a Girl club is a group focused on advocating, raising awareness and fundraising for girls on a local, national and global level,” Olson said.
However, they do not stop at simply making these concerns that they have known, they also work with younger girls in attempt to empower them.
“We also run Empowerment programs for girls in elementary and middle schools around the city,” Olson added.
According to Olson, one of the many amazing things about this club, is that there is no adult involvement other than someone allowing them into the LPS building and staying there with them as to be in accordance with LPS school policy.
“Otherwise it’s all youth-run,” Olson said.
Currently, the club is open for anyone and everyone who wants to join. Just go to http://likeagirllps.org to register, and find more information. On the website, you will be able to find descriptions for each committee, as well as the time that they meet, so you can make sure it will work with your schedule before registering.
This club is putting in the work to do amazing things, and it will be exciting to see them accomplish all of their goals one by one.
