Last year you may have seen food at various locations around the building: in the attendance office, outside the athletic office, in the health office. But this year, you might have noticed that the bowls are often empty.
For the past six years Lincoln High has been able to set out 250 servings of grain and 250 servings of fruit under the Fruit and Fiber Grant. This year funding for the grant has run out, and only 100 servings of one food are being given out this year under the Emergency Woods Grant.
“So we’ve had food for six continuous years,” school nurse Dawn Sugden said. “And this was the first year that we’ve had the gap,” Sugden added.
The school’s goal is to have it be available to every student at Lincoln High if there’s a need.
“We’re just constantly looking for some money and figuring out a way how to fund this,” Sugden said.
For now, they have been able to create a “Fund-a-Need” that is open for donations that will help to supply the food at the end of this semester. While a donation would be greatly appreciated, sharing the link would be equally as helpful Sugden said.
