Fashion has a habit of repeating itself. Because of this, we can predict the new up and coming trends of 2026. The “20 year rule” states that every 20 years trends recycle, so whether you like it or not late 2000s trends are coming back. Here at the Advocate, we’ve compiled a list of predictions for this year.
One such trend which has many mixed reviews is skinny jeans. Around the 2020s they fell out of style. Part of this is due to a favoring of the looser silhouette, but the Covid-19 pandemic strengthened our priority of comfort in clothing as well. These pants are well due for a revival, as many people are starting to look to the 2000s for fashion inspiration. Another hated trend is capri pants. As seen on celebrities like Hailey Bieber, these pants may also be returning soon. The 60s A-line dress was very popular in 2006. I believe that it will revive in 2026 as they bring a new energy that we haven’t recently seen. The shorter dress length makes a bold statement in the rise of more conservative clothing choices.

In men’s fashion, the current logo-mania may start to decrease in popularity. A recent Tik-Tok trend of “quarter zip sweaters” shows men leaning towards a “quiet luxury” energy. Perhaps discreet branding and neutral color schemes will be all the rage in 2025; as we shy away from the past “Nike tech” area.
In makeup, we have seen the “clean girl” look gain popularity. It is characterized by light mascara and lip gloss, favoring a “natural” look. I hope this new year will bring back glam bold makeup styles. Famous music artists like Zara Larson, Chappell Roan and PinkPantheress are guiding our styles with glittery eyeshadows, face gems and bright lipsticks.
In 2025 jewelry we have seen a revival of minimalist designs, similar to our makeup. As these designs have reached a peak of their popularity things will start to change in 2026. Like the popular “statement” necklaces, I predict necklaces with large and colorful details. Another up and coming item would be sculptural designs. These 3D jewelry items draw inspiration from organic movements and textures. Michael Good’s work amplifies this trend.

Additionally, the economy is slowing. During previous economic downturns cheaper luxury items gained popularity. Smaller items like lipsticks, sunglasses, and hair accessories give us the feeling of opulence without the high price. For example, in recent years when the economy decreased, we have seen a revival of luxury skincare products. We will most likely see a continued rise in small luxury goods.
Ultimately, these new trends are just predictions. Place your bets on what new items will peak in popularity in the new year!
