The sponsor for the club is Marissa Wanamaker, and I asked her a few questions! The first question was “What made you interested in sponsoring the club?” she replied saying, “I was nominated by some wonderful students as I often make puns and jokes. They know I like to laugh and have a good time, so we started Comedy Club!” It’s super interesting that a bunch of kids wanted her to sponsor the club because she likes making jokes and I’m sure they realized that she would also have fun laughing at others’ jokes too! Another one of my questions I asked her was, “What is your favorite part of comedy club?” . Her response was, “I have been nervous about organizing activities as I am not part of any actual comedy club. But honestly some of our most spontaneous ideas have been our best. The best part though? EVERYONE and all of their ideas are welcome and appreciated. It’s all about having fun together.” It’s really cool that even though she isn’t always fully involved she still enjoys hearing everyone’s different jokes and ideas when they all come together! The last question I asked her was, “What are some of the things that happen in the club?” She said, “We’ve created skits, practiced laughing (and making others laugh) and just having fun. We usually start with jokes, watch some funny skits, laugh and create stuff (often in ever-changing characters). It’s a lot of fun.” Seems like they do a bunch of super exciting stuff and sounds super fun to join in on!
Next I interviewed a member of the club Dexter Thompson. The first question he asked him about the club was, “Why did you join the club?” He then replied saying, “I joined the club because I love comedy and wanted to spend time making jokes.” The second question I asked him was more about the club and the amount of participation needed during the meetings, which was “Do you always have to make jokes in the club or can you just sit and listen to others sometimes?” In response he said, “You can sit and listen if you want to but you can also take part in the activity or just hangout with your friends.” It’s super cool that someone can come in just to laugh if they don’t have a joke to share or just even want to laugh! The last question I asked him was about what he thinks is the best part of being in the club. He said his favorite part is how you can spend time laughing and having fun while not having to stress about school. It seems super cool that even though they only meet on club day, going to the club can make you forget about the stressfulness of school even if it’s just for an hour.
All in all the club seems super exciting for people who want to laugh, have funny jokes, or even funny skits to share! Everyone seems like they enjoy the club and the people in it. It seems like everyone is very encouraging in the club so if a joke doesn’t land or something else happens you won’t feel embarrassed!
