Interview by Jasmine Shirley
Teachers and staff who came to the Staff Appreciation celebration during A lunch got to see Associate Principal Russ Uhing whose last day at LHS is today. Uhing has taken a position at LPSDO as Director of Student Services. In honor of his years at LHS, staff members dressed in traditional Uhing garb – khaki pants, and a blue shirt and tie. Uhing, however, chose today to wear a red shirt.
“Students and staff have been very nice since it was announced that I was leaving,” Uhing said. “It’s really difficult for me to leave Lincoln High.”
“I will miss the day to day interactions that you have with so many people on a daily basis and all of the relationships you’ve built with students and staff. Those are really special, and that’s why I got into education in the first place,” Uhing said.
Uhing also has fond memories of his 10 years of coaching. “I have a lot of great memories of student athletes and coaches that I worked with.”
Uhing started at LHS in 1991 as a business teacher, then became and instructional coordinator for 10 years. He spent the last 5 years as an associate principal.
“I never really planned on leaving, it’s just that this was an opportunity that I was really interested in and professionally I thought it was a good opportunity for me, so it’s something I pursued,” Uhing said.
“I absolutely love being here, and I love our kids, and I love the staff that I work with, and it’s really difficult for me to leave. I’m really looking forward to my new job, but it’s really been an
emotional week for me, knowing that I’m going to leave after so long,” Uhing added.
Uhing will be missed by students and staff alike.
