The Lincoln High Debate Team became the district champions this year. The LHS Debate Team also won districts (also know as NFL National Qualifier) a few years ago, in 2012. The 1st round of the 2015 districts were on February 27th and 28th at Millard South. The 2nd round in the district competition were on March 6th and 7th at Millard South. The 3rd and final round of districts were on March 21st at Ralston. The State Championship has begun already, with Lincoln High in the quarterfinals. Also, Junior Elizabeth Yost, Senior Maggie Zoz, Senior James Rehwaldt- Alexander, and Junior Daniel Witte will be representing Lincoln High at the 2015 National Debate Tournament.

The National Tournament takes place during June 14th to June 19th in Dallas, Texas. Zoz and Yost will be doing the Lincoln Douglas debate for this tournament. While Rehwaldt-Alexander and Witte will be doing the Policy Debate. The debate team does need funding for The National Tournament. They need to raise at least $3,000 to pay for travel, hotels, and other tournament fees. If you would like to show support to Lincoln High’s debate team, on GoFundMe online where you can donate money to the great team.

“Debate has been a special activity for all of us for the past three years,” said Yost, Zoz, Rehwaldt-Alexander, and Witte on the GoFundMe site, “We’ve learned how to speak, listen, think critically, and address issues complexly. The National Tournament is an experience we all value immensely and your support helps us build on what debate has already taught us.” The exact site is http://www. gofundme.com/lhsnats15. There are various rewards to donating different amounts too. Such as for $10 you will receive a high-five from competing debaters.

“They never cease to amaze me with their hard work, dedication, and humble attitudes,” Debate coach and Lincoln High English teacher Jill Livingston said ,“The LHS debate team is among the top debate teams in the state, and that is entirely due to the fact that they have a love for the activity, and they never give up. I am so lucky to work with this group of individuals!” This year was Livingston’s first year as being the Lincoln High Debate Coach. Livingston is also leaving Lincoln High this year. Making the 2015 debate season the only she’ll be coach of for Lincoln High. The person to be replacing Livingston next year will be Victoria Freeman.
