Senior LHS students Asraa Al-Lami, Sofia Caruso, Janely Torres Gonzalez, Nazo Hayder, Jeremiah Theork, and Ali Waly all were awarded scholarships to UNL to major in education. Sophia Caruso, who will be majoring in Elementary Education and minoring in Spanish, spoke on how she feels that there is a need for teachers who want to do more than ‘just teach material.’ Caruso also wants to make an impact on kids like some teachers have had on her. Another student, Ali Waly, who is double majoring in Secondary Education and World Studies wants to become an Arabic teacher. Waly said he wants to help his community through teaching. All of these students prepare to attend UNL in the upcoming fall semester. LHS hosted a scholarship signing ceremony on April 4th, to honor these recipients. In total, sixteen scholarships have been awarded across Nebraska for their education preparation programs.
