Homecoming has been a tradition in high schools across America since the 1920s. Last night, Lincoln High celebrated its annual Homecoming dance and game! The theme this year was Starry Night, which was selected by the popular vote of LHS students.
The week prior to the dance, LHS students partook in a Spirit Week to hype up Homecoming, with the themes of pajama day, twin day, monochrome day, decades day, and of course, the classic school spirit day.
On Thursday, the night before the dance, Lincoln High took on the South Sioux City Cardinals for our Homecoming Game! The match took place in our very own Beechner field. As per usual, the Pomalinks and the Marching band also had a chance to perform for their school. Although they put up a good fight, the links unfortunately lost the game. With a final score of 9 to 43, many students left the field disappointed. Better luck next time Links! Despite this loss, Lincoln High still came together and celebrated the day after, at the Homecoming dance.
The theme of the dance, Starry Night, took inspiration from the lovely night sky and included deep blue and gold stars and glittering decorations everywhere! Several sky themed photo booths were set up for partygoers to pose in, and streamers and balloons decorated the halls. These sparkling stars made the whole dance feel free and fun for everyone involved.
At 9:45 on Friday night, the Homecoming Royalty was announced and their coronation commenced! This year’s junior Court consisted of Izel Garcia-Hernandez and Sania Banks, and the lucky seniors who got to celebrate their final HOCO in style were Scarlet Anderson and Aniya Hicks-Robinson.
This dance, game, and the spirit week hyped up school spirit and got students excited for the rest of the year. Overall Homecoming was a success and we can’t wait to see what next year’s will be like!
