In order to prepare for this exciting game, Lincoln High held a staff only spirit week leading up to the game, encouraging teachers to dress up and show their school spirit. On November 15, Lincoln High staff took to the court to duke it out in Hoops for Hope, an annual LHS charity fundraiser. Teachers split into Red and Black teams to take each other on in a high stakes, and remarkably close basketball game! This game was hosted by LHS Student Council, and was held in the Johnson Gym. Attendees were charged $5 a piece to donate to the Make-A-Wish Foundation of America, in addition to collecting spare change and extra donations at half time.
The game was a close match up, and scores remained tight throughout, barely exceeding 2 point differences for most of the match. However, at half time, the Red Team, led by Principal Larson had earned a dramatic eight point lead. The halftime show included donation collections led by Student Council, a game of knockout played by LHS students, and the traditional LHS you KNOW ticket drawings. Also during half time, the marching band gave a spectacular performance, and the Pomalinks invited Red and Black Team players to dance with them to Jennifer Lopez’s “Let’s Get Loud”.
When interviewed on their favorite part of Hoops for Hope, Lincoln High students and teachers gave a variety of different answers. “The best part is watching everyone have fun, and connect with their teachers,” said sophomore Student Council member Stefi Khalimonchuck. “Beating Red Team,” said social studies teacher and Black Team member Chris Turley.
In the end, the Black Team pulled out a win, with a final score of 52-54. Few people are surprised, as Principal Larson’s Red Team is known for their losing streak. In addition to this, the LHS Student Council managed to raise around $3,400 dollars for the Make-A-Wish foundation, distinctly marking this event as a success in the Lincoln High history books!
