Cancer leading cause of death

Cancer leading cause of death

By A.K. Khalaf

With an estimated 1.5 million new cases in the U.S. this year, chances are pretty good that you know someone who has cancer.

Today there are more than 100 different types of cancer in the world. These types include skin cancer, lung cancer, breast cancer, lymphoma, and more.

The symptoms for cancer depend on the type of a cancer a person has. The sooner cancer is diagnosed and treated, the better the cancer of its being cured. Treatments include chemotherapy, radiation, and sometimes surgery.

To diagnosis if you have cancer you can get a physical exam. Exams help doctors determine the cancer’s size and location. Studies of blood, urine, and stool can detect abnormalities that may show signs of cancer.

Here at Lincoln High School Eglish teacher Isau Metes and her husband cut their hair to show their support for her grandmother who had breast cancer and was going through chemotherapy.

Her hair was falling out and she was not taking it well, Metes said.  According to Metes,  the most important thing to do when you find out a loved one has cancer, is to “be supportive in the way that they need support.”

After finding out you or someone you know has cancer there are 3 steps you might want to follow:
Understanding the Diagnosis – There are many different types of cancer and it’s very important to know which one you have.

Don’t Jump The Gun And Think The Worst – Not all cancers of the same type act the same. Get all the facts from an expert.
