LHS Food Market Feeds Many

LHS Food Market Feeds Many

By Kylee Johnson

On Every 2nd and 4th Wednesday of every month, the Lincoln High Cafeteria turns into a Food Market full of free food for students. During their 8th period and until 4 o’clock on these Wednesdays, students and their parents can come in and grab some free groceries to take home. The only thing that is required is that when students or their parent/guardian comes through the line, they have to sign their name and student ID number. After finishing that up, they are handed a bag and they can grab as many groceries they need and want.

The food at the Lincoln High Food Market is provided by Saint Mark’s Church and Lincoln Benefit Life and their donations. This was great market was created by Sue Dutton and Marj Newcomer two years ago when they sat down with Lincoln Food Bank and asked if this could be possible and it was. The market is set up by various people within the Lincoln High community. Community volunteers as well as student volunteers come in around the beginning of 8th period and help set up the market so that is ready for students to come too at the end of the day. This Market began last year and will be continuing for years to come!
