As is the custom for Lincoln High, Principal Mike Wortman delivered a Veteran’s Day address during Sound Announcements today, Monday, November 12, 2012. Following the address, students and staff were invited to rise and recite the Pledge of Allegiance. LHS junior Caleb Thiessen then played Taps over the intercom which was followed by a moment of silence.

Veterans Day is not a day of Celebration… It is a time we, pause to remember the lessons of history, and to pay respect to those men and women, who, throughout history, left their homes and loved ones to serve their country….
This Special Day which we “pause to remember” had its beginning as Armistice Day following World War I. It was on the 11th hour, of the 11th day, of the 11th month, in the year 1918, an Armistice was signed ending World War I. Since World War I, citizens of our nation have continued to answer their call to serve, during World War II, Korea, Vietnam, Desert Storm, Iraq, Afghanistan, and other areas of the world, in order to preserve peace and freedom for future generations.
We call your attention to the memorial plaques, which are located on the walls in the north entrance of our school. I am sure many of you have searched out a name with a special meaning. In total, 276 names are found on those plaques. AND, within the past few years, the names of Garrison Avery, class of 2000 and Mike Scholl class of 2002, have been added to those Lincoln High students who have given their lives in the line of duty. All these former LINKS… were students here, they all walked and talked and played in these same halls as we do today. May their efforts not have been in vain. ALL VETERANS GAVE SOME… SOME VETERANS GAVE ALL….
In the world in which we live, we are reminded daily of the need for the world to find solutions to economic, political, religious, and social differences. May this brief moment of silence be in respect of past deeds, and for the living and dead who have served our nation. AND, may each of us, in our own way, hope for a world of peace…. As we continue to strive to be a more perfect union… and may we give support to…. all nations and their leaders in finding answers to the problems which are now confronting our world.
As we commend these youth of yesterday for their contributions, we equally praise the youth of today and especially all students of Lincoln High, for the goals they have established in the name of peace and understanding of all peoples of the world.
