Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump spoke on many subjects which impact all of our communities. Spanning from abortion access to war, this debate covered many, but not all of the topics that American citizens have expressed concerns about. Hosted on ABC News, the program lasted 90 minutes, with a 20 minute section at the end regarding the Vice President picks and their views on the points that each candidate made.
From the start of the debate, Harris proved herself to be a strong and powerful candidate, marching over to Trump’s side of the stage and shaking his hand firmly. After this greeting, the debate commenced. The conversation topics included Abortion access, Economy, Immigration, Ukraine and Russia, Afghanistan, Israel, and a brief mention of gun legislation. At times, Trump seemed to veer off track and brought up topics which felt unnecessary and strange to some viewers, such as the size of his rallies and a conspiracy theory claiming immigrants in Springfield were capturing and consuming house pets.
This debate has sparked many positive conversations regarding politics and voting in our communities. Hopefully, this positive conversation continues, and we can discuss difficult subjects truthfully and peacefully. The impact of this debate will be seen more clearly mirrored by the results of the election.
Between all the interesting moments and the important topics covered, this debate has done its job in informing this year’s voters about their candidates stances and personalities. We hope that citizens will go out and vote, and will continue to educate themselves through media and other reliable sources.
