Lincoln community members gather at Lincoln High School on Saturday, May 3, 2014 to celebrate Cinco de Mayo. Events included food, music, dancing, and games.

Hundreds of Lincoln students, children, and adults took advantage of the beautiful spring weather to gather in front of Lincoln High School on Saturday to celebrate Cinco de Mayo.

The free festival, El dia del Niño, featured music, dancing, food, and games. It was sponsored by El Centro de las Americas, Fiesta Mexicana of the Heartland, & Lincoln High School’s Las Razas Unidas.

In addition to live performances by Las Cecilias, an all female Mariachi, and live folklorico dancing by Fiesta Mexicana of the Heartland, the festival also included freshly made food cooked by Taqueria El Rey. A variety of community and school organizations also had booths to share information.

 

 

 

 

The program included:
11am – 6pm: food, piñatas, bouncy castles, music, and kid games all day
12:30pm: Performance by Las Cecilias – live mariachi
2pm: Folklorico dance by Kurowi
3pm: Folklorico dance by Fiesta Mexicana of the Heartland
3:30pm: Free folklorico lesson with master teacher Pablo Cervantes
4:30pm:  Venezuelan musical group
5 pm: Truinfo ceremony recognized graduating LPS Latino seniors with academic excellence.

All proceeds went to the community programs of Fiesta Mexicana of the Heartland, El Centro de las Americas, and Lincoln High School.
