Marissa Wanamaker is Lincoln High’s German teacher. She has been teaching German to students for 22 years since 2004. Here at Lincoln High she teaches Level 1, 1/2, and 3/4—along with junior IB/AP, and senior IB. She was asked what her favorite methods to make learning German fun and engaging she responded with multiple different methods she likes to use: Making little songs which sometimes have dances tied to them, funny stories that she ties hard information into, and it can also depend on the class too on how she does things so she mixes it up depending on her class. When asked about how effective her method was, she responded If she starts one of the songs she thinks it helps people remember the things she’s trying to help them remember. Frau is what many of her students know her as. Being a teacher is not what she had always wanted to do as her career; she has a degree in psychology and originally wanted to be a child psychologist but while she was in Berlin she got a degree in German which eventually led to her becoming a German teacher. Many of Frau’s studentsI think she is a great teacher and makes learning German fun and a little easier for it being a hard language.
Many times people who don’t know her name refer to her as “The Cookie Lady” due to how she sells Cookie Company cookies from her classroom. The selling of cookies originally started as a reward for a past student which; that student gave her the idea to sell them to people from her classroom. She finds joy in this as she meets new people and people will recognize her at GateWay Mall as she works at the Cookie Company there.

Great article! Wow, I was trying to locate my former German teacher from LHS, Herr Schmidt, and saw this. Goodness, I graduated from LHS in 74, and she’s already been there for 22 years.
If you know of Herr Schmidt’s whereabouts, please send him my email.
Danke,
