You might have noticed that the light bulb sculpture that was in front of the building (and the other ones around town) are now gone.
Wonder where they all went? We did, too.
Luckily we got the chance to talk to one of the artists, Jenna Harsh, on October 4th while she was outside of Lincoln High doing some final touch ups on the light bulb created by Roberta Barnes, her friend.
Harsh was getting it ready for Thursday night, Oct. 8th when all 51 of the sculptures would be on public display at the Saltdogs Stadium. They were then auctioned off the next night starting at 6:30 p.m.
Barnes, who teaches out of town, couldn’t get in to do the touch ups, so Harsh lent a hand (and a paintbrush). Barnes designed and created the sculpture (and two others) with her students.
“There is also a book that is going to be there with pictures of the light bulbs and some of the artist are going to be there,” Harsh said.
The purpose of the project, called, Illuminating Lincoln: Lighthouse was to raise money for the Lighthouse which is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year. According to its website, the Lighthouse is “an after-school program that offers middle and high school aged-youth academic support, evening meals and enrichment/recreational activities during non-school hours, Monday through Friday, twelve months a year.”
There were 51 of the light bulbs all over Lincoln, and each one of them has a different artist. Barnes’ son Seth is a teacher at Lincoln High. Harsh did a few of the other sculptures including one downtown with a tree design.
